The typical south Vietnam area guided tour begins by flying into Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) and driving either south into the Mekong Delta, east to Vung Tao along the China Sea ocean beaches or north up into the central highlands of Pleiku, Da Lat, Dak To, etc. The old French Colonial architecture is evident in every city in the south and north.

Visiting the north usually begins by flying into Hanoi, driving over to Haiphong on the South China Sea, north to the limestone islands and cliffs next to the China border, then west to Dien Bien Phu, site of the French Foreign Legion defeat at the hands of the old Viet Minh Army.
